Environment and Conservation Fund
The Environment and Conservation Fund (“ECF”) is a statutory trust fund established in June 1994. The Committee advocates all sectors of the community and the general public to better understand and make good use of the ECF through applications for organising and participation in environmental protection and nature conservation projects and activities. With effective utilisation of innovative solutions and environmental protection technologies, we will be able to achieve the targets of “cherishing resources”, “reducing waste at source”, “achieving carbon neutrality”, etc. We would like to encourage members of the public to join hands to practise low-carbon living, draw up action plans and work together with the Government to achieve sustainable development in the community.
Environmental education and community participation project objectives
The project must help enhance the overall environmental quality of Hong Kong, raise environmental awareness of the local community, promote public participation in green and low-carbon living, and assist the Government in protecting the environment through their actions; the benefits of the project must accrue to the local community as a whole, and not just to individuals, a private organisation or a group; and the project must be non-profit making in nature.
Environment and Conservation Fund Carbonopoly (Carbon-Monopoly)
To educate students and their parents about "Carbon Neutrality", and to develop a feasible, fashionable, fun and artistic image for low-carbon life through workshops, guided tours and orienteering.
Carbon neutrality, a very academic name, makes people feel elusive. This project hopes to use the creation of the board game "Carbonopoly" to conduct a series of board game lectures and trial activities, so that primary, secondary, and kindergarten students and parents can understand the concept and practical methods of carbon neutrality from the game; The board game "Carbonopoly" will be given to the participants, in order to spread the message of carbon neutrality through the game channel, and achieve the effect of "one spread to ten, ten to hundreds".
At the same time, a series of experiential workshops are also promoted and planned in the board game card, encouraging players to make unique and symbolic sculptures by themselves in the form of flower art, craftsman, painting, etc. Handmade, visualized environmental reminder messages; at the same time, through contact with wood (carbon preservation) and natural objects, connecting with nature, you can feel the inseparable relationship between man and nature, and feel more moved and motivated To practice low-carbon life.
This plan also draws on the newly emerging sports "Finnish Wooden Pillar" and "City/Park Orientation" activities in recent years to attract sports-loving families to pay attention to and recognize the environmental protection "carbon neutral" proposal. It also allows them to understand that low carbon is within reach during exercise. As long as they adjust their attitude towards life, they can play healthy and environmentally friendly.
From board games suitable for all ages, to interesting handicrafts, to the battle of wits and the race against time, "Carbonopoly" is to make environmental protection a fun game process. By playing, the environmental message of "carbon neutrality" is spread unknowingly.
The project is an educational initiative on "Carbon Neutrality". Through the design and creation of the "Carbonopoly" board game, players learn about the concept, principles, and practical methods of carbon neutrality, recognizing the important role that trees, timber, and wooden products play in achieving carbon neutrality. Simultaneously, a series of hands-on woodworking workshops and experiential activities allow participants to create a symbolic (S) decoration or artwork, reminding them that for humanity to coexist harmoniously with nature/the Earth, it must practice a low-carbon, carbon-neutral lifestyle and work together to win at carbon neutrality.
Handmade activities include:
1) Fruit and Vegetable Flower Workshop: Bouquets made from fruits and vegetables can be used for decoration and are also edible, serving two purposes in one. They are superior to fresh flowers and achieve the same effect of conveying care and love.
2) Woodcut painting workshop: Using discarded wood/plank as a canvas and drawing with an electric soldering iron to create beloved artworks.
3) Clever Woodworking: Making Wooden Chairs from Waste Wood
4) Finnish Wooden Pillar: Make a small wooden pen holder
This aims to portray "low-carbon living" as feasible, fashionable, fun, and artistic, attracting parents of all kinds (those who dislike trouble, are thrifty, and love fashion) and trend-loving teenagers to participate, starting from themselves and promoting low-carbon living for their families.
