Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is orienteering? Will I need to take a vehicle for this city orienteering race?
Orienteering is a sport that tests intelligence and mental agility. Using an orienteering map provided by the organizers, participants plan their own routes within a time limit, visiting the most pre-designated checkpoints and returning to the finish line on time. At each checkpoint, participants must check off their progress to earn points. The team with the highest total score and the shortest completion time wins. The orienteering map provides more accurate information than other navigation tools (such as Google Maps) and includes all necessary data for the competition, including the start, finish, and checkpoint locations. Participants must complete the activity on foot and are not allowed to use any form of transportation.
2. Can people with no prior experience participate? Does participation require an exhaustive run or exceptional physical fitness?
Even those with no orienteering experience can participate in urban orienteering. The organizers will hold an online introductory session and orienteering instruction before the event, welcoming first-timers and families to join the children's group. While participants with good physical fitness or athletic backgrounds may have some advantages, each participant can plan their own route based on their abilities and explore Lok Fu and Wong Tai Sin with teammates. The difficulty and scope of the activity will be divided into different groups, allowing participants to choose the team that best suits their abilities.
3. Does the event offer luggage storage?
The event will begin with a meeting and registration at the HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, the event center. Luggage storage will be available on-site for your convenience, ensuring you have a great time.
4. Are the exclusive gifts and player packs for the first 80 teams counted per team? When will they be distributed?
Each participant will receive one race pack, and the first 80 teams to register will each receive a limited-edition gift. Race packs will be distributed upon registration, and participants who have registered for a physical finisher's certificate will receive one upon completion of the race. Limited-edition gifts will also be distributed after the race.
5. What activities are happening at the carnival afternoon?
The afternoon carnival celebration will feature several activities for participants, all free of charge, from 13:30 to 17:00. Participants can relax or have a meal after completing the races before joining the activities. Various booths will be available, including experiences with emerging sports, a mini orienteering maze, and eco-themed games. Additionally, a tote bag screen printing workshop will be available, where each member of the first 80 registered teams can have a limited-edition commemorative tote bag printed. A photo area with a backdrop and an awards ceremony will also be held.
